A-Z Theme Reveal

Hi everyone! Today is the day those of us participating in the A-Z Blogging Challenge can reveal our themes.   My sweet little Phoebe pretty much gave it away yesterday. I am going to crochet a cat toy ( 4 hats too) each day of the challenge. At the end of the month, I will have a giveaway and 2 lucky winners will split everything.

We are joining Comedy Plus’ Awww…Mondays Blog Hop today. I am also joining It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading?

I just finished a wonderful book called Let Your Spirit Guides Speak: A Simple Guide for a Life of Purpose, Abundance and Joy by Debra Engle Landwehr. The author explains how we all have spirit guides with us throughout life and all we need to do is ask them for help. She refers to them as spirit guides, but I think of them as guardian angels as I am sure many do. There are meditation exercises to help us open up to them. I have never heard a message from mine, but I know they have saved me from countless accidents and bad choices.

Erin the Cat Princess was the only one that figured out what kind of car Sammy is making for the cardwood derby- good job Princess Erin!

A-Z Challenge Reflections

Hi everyone! Today’s post is our reflections on the a-z challenge. This was our second year participating. I really enjoy writing posts for the challenge, but this year was certainly not as fun as last year because of Spooky’s illness and passing. The challenge did provide a distraction for me while grieving though. I will definitely participate next year and I am already trying to decide if I will do more books, or maybe blogging cats.
I was thrilled to find more cat blogs to follow including The Kitty Corner, ScootersTale, Six Cats and Counting and That’s Purrfect. If you don’t already follow these, you should check them out.

And for Toby’s Mom and anyone else , I am going to list all the books and authors I recommended so they will all be in one place for you.

Books I Don’t Recommend

Hi everyone!Thank you all for your words of wisdom and suggestions for Brody yesterday. I do believe he was sent to me to teach me patience which is something I have never had. I will keep things as they are for now and hope he continues to get braver. And as my other cats find their new positions after so much change, maybe they will accept him.

When I was reading lots of cat books for The A-Z Blogging Challenge, I found some books that I didn’t like. I figured I could do a post on those now that the challenge is over.

One of them was going to be my U choice. An Unlikely Cat Lady: Feral Adventures in the Backyard Jungle by Nina Malkin was disappointing. I thought it was going to be how a group of feral kitties converts a lady into a cat lover. In a way it was, but she is a jerk. She may have helped some cats, but at one point she traps a Tom Cat and thinks he is ugly so she lets him go. I thought that was so mean, she could have brought him in to be neutered while she had him trapped.

Another book that was very disappointing was the latest Chicken Soup for the Soul: My Very Good, Very Bad Cat edited by Amy Newmark. There are 101 stories so they are not all bad. I was annoyed that some of the stories were chosen. In the first section of the book, there is a story about a lady who hated her boyfriend’s cat. There was another story of a lady cat sitting who abandons the cat because it tried to attack her. She figures it will be fine for 2 more days without food. I think you should at least be a cat lover to have your story included in a book like this.

And one other book that bothered me was My Street Cats by Raphaella Bilski. In the book, she tells about the feral colony she fed in the 1990’s at her home in Jerusalem. It is very sad because many die very young. I also don’t like her attitude that all cats should not be spayed and neutered. She feels there should be a happy medium between fixing them and letting them live as naturally as possible. I would think after seeing first-hand what happens when cats are not fixed, she would be all for TNR.

Sorry about this rant, I just wanted to let you know what didn’t make the cut for the A-Z challenge. joanie2Joanie thought you may like a tummy shot for Tummy Tuesday.

Z is for Zee & Zoey

Hi everyone! Today is the last day of the A-Z Blogging Challenge. We highly recommend The Chronicles of Zee & Zoey by Deborah Barnes. I love the blog Zee and Zoey’s Cat Chronicles and this book is love story of Zee and Zoey and their family. It is so much more than that though. I think it is an inspiration that one can survive anything as long as you have cats to help you through. Phoebe4  I love the photos and design of the book too.

And for Athena’s Caturday Art Blog Hop,  we are celebrating National Tabby Cat Day- I realize I didn’t do anything to these photos, but tabbies are all works of art. Prancie didn’t want her photo taken so she jumped inside Sammy’s TARDIS.

tabby1 Caturday Arttabby2KaTwo did a little better.

And the reason tabby cats hold a special place in my heart- KaChoo- my first cat (1994-2010)

KaChoo

We were very sad to see another kitty leave this world , Cinco’s family is heartbroken.

Y is for Yarned and Dangerous

Hi everyone! Today is Y day for the A-Z Blogging Challenge. And we are recommending Yarned and Dangerous by Sadie Hartwell. This was another fiction book that caught my attention because there was a cat in it and yarn too.

A young woman named Josie returns to a small Connecticut town to help her great uncle who was injured in a car crash. That crash killed his new wife and Josie is also there to help close the yarn store she owned. As she does this, a body of one of the knitters in town shows up and she begins to realize that accident maybe wasn’t an accident after all. She brings her cat with her and he is mentioned several times. phoebe3

I am yarned and dangerous too! I can’t believe my Mom made me wait a whole day to write my post- phooey! I did get to see my Grammie on Wednesday- I love her so very, very much. And she is going to see me tonight too.

My Mom is driving me crazy, she binge watches a show called Flip or Flop on HGTV. These people buy houses and are supposed to improve them and sell them for more money. I don’t understand, they don’t look improved to me. They never add cat trees, wall carpets, water fountains or ceiling walkways. Those people that buy these houses are pretty stupid if you ask me.

#Chewyinfluencer Kong Cat Scratcher

Hi everyone! Today we are finally getting to our ChewyInfluencer post which is over a week late. This month I chose the Kong Cat Scratcher, Incline because I wanted Brody to have something of his own.

He had no interest in it, but Sammy loves it. The minute the Chewy box arrived, Sammy figured it was something for him and Joanie hoped it was a new food to try.

DSCF1016

DSCF1019 Phoebe, Sammy and Joanie helped me assemble it. It was mostly assembled, we just had to add the mat to the incline. This one is extra special and has a little ball hanging inside that the cats can see from the sides.

DSCF1024Sammy immediately got to work claiming it as his own.

DSCF1021Look how talented he is, he can use going up or down. After this, I did give it to Brody, but he didn’t want to use it so it is back downstairs where Sammy monopolizes it. Joanie takes a turn once in a while too:

This is a sturdy scratcher and it is on sale for only $5.79. And don’t forget Chewy offers free shipping on orders over $49 so stock up.

Disclaimer: We received this item for free from Chewy in exchange for giving it a fair review. All opinions are our own.

I am also slipping my X in for the A-Z Blogging Challenge so I don’t have to do a separate post. X is for Xander de Hunter, the main character in Jeanne Foguth’s The Sea Purrtector Files which I told you about 2 days ago. Make sure you get your free prequel titled Lattitudes and Cattitiudes if you haven’t yet.

Another beloved pet has left , Bev ( Fozziemum) and family had to say goodbye to Forrest. Forrest, FOREVER

Phoebe will be writing tomorrow- sorry I had to push her off a day to get our Chewy post done.

The original came out in 1997 and it was reprinted in 2007- you can get it on half.com for 75 cents plus shipping. Every chapter has a story about a real cat, a quote, a scripture and a cat care tip. It also has lots of adorable photos.

2 cooked boneless chicken breasts $2.99/pound

1/2 cup dried sweetened cranberries 5 ounces for $2.99

1/4 cup pecans 6 ounces $5.69

1 slice of onion $2.99/ 5 pound bag

mayonnaise $ 2.99 jar

Directions: Toss first 4 ingredients into food processor and chop up then add mayonnaise . Put on your favorite bread.  This is also good with leftover turkey at Thanksgiving. Make sure you give the cats a little chicken before you add the onion.

V is for Vi-Purrs

Hi everyone! Today is V day for the A-Z Blogging Challenge . I have been looking forward  to V because I get to tell you about one of my favorite authors. As most of you know, I prefer non-fiction, but I love all of Jeanne Foguth’s books which are fiction. I wrote about her Sea Purrtector Files last November and this is the latest in the series.

vi-purrs The Vi-Purrs is the third book in the series, there is also a short prequel called Lattitudes and Cattitudes which is currently free on Amazon-click here. Xander de Hunter is the 007 of the cat world and works for Catamondo. He is assisted by a fun mix of characters including, Mischief, a kitten in training who happens to love water. The author happens to have a cat that loves water, if you are not familiar with Purrseidon, you should visit her blog. And for a more complete description of the series click here.

Special catnip blends are written about in these books so the author’s daughter decided to make her own blends, you can read about that by clicking here. My cats have been “testers” and all the blends they tried were enjoyed. The great news is that there is now an Etsy store to purchase these Cat-A-Bliss blends. I purchased some silvervine sticks a few days ago and they already arrived:Cat-a-Bliss

One of her blends helped rescue a cat this past weekend. If you want to get on your cat’s good side, you should order a special blend, click here to go to Etsy.

I apologize for all the links, but I love this series and hope you will get your free prequel and hopefully want to read the other 3 books. I am also impressed at how much work Jeanne’s daughter has put into making these special blends and I hope you will want to buy some.

U is for Under the Paw

Hi everyone! Today is U day in the A-Z Blogging Challenge. I am recommending Under the Paw: Confessions of a Cat Man  by Tom Cox. He lives in England and has written four books about life with his cats, this is the first of the four books. They are mostly funny, but you may cry a little too ( I did).

blog4

Sammy has a Cat Scout friend visiting. Flat Mango, has been here for over a week. I feel bad that we haven’t had much fun, but this week we will. Here is Phoebe telling her all about her Purrince:blog1 and here is Sammy sharing a snack with her: blog3

T is for Toto and Tortitude

Hi everyone! Today is T day in The A-Z Blogging Challenge and we have 2 T’s for you.

DSCF0824

First, Penny highly recommends Tortitude by Ingrid King. Penny definitely has Tortitude and anyone with a Tortie knows what that means.

I also want to recommend a local celebrity. Toto The Tornado Kitten. Almost 5 years ago, there was a tornado in a nearby town and a little kitten was found in a tree by a rescue worker. The kitten was too small for him to keep at the time, but later, his wife surprised him by adopting Toto. He has 2 children’s books and visits local libraries and schools. I had the pleasure of meeting him last summer, to see photos of that click here. All the money from the books goes to local shelters and as of last summer $56,000 had been raised.

I am also joining Athena’s Caturday Art Blog Hop . I am displaying all the beautiful images that were made for Spooky. I hope to have an angel page set up in the very near future. Thank you again everyone for your love and support.
