Festivus Details and Lots More

Hi everyone! I have a lot to tell you about today. I saw Grammie on Wednesday and I can’t wait to see her again, I love her so very much.

100_4943 It is a little chilly. Do I look OK in this hat?

Now for the Festivus details. The party will be on Friday, December 23rd. I will ask that you air your grievances in the comments. Cats can complain about everything, humans can complain about anything except cats ( it’s my party so my rules).

For the “feats of strength”, if you have a photo of you with a pole or wrestling please send it to me with permission to share it on the 23rd. My email is pilch92@aol.com. I will have a giveaway that day for all who comment. I hope you will all join the party.

Now it is time for Sammy’s Poetry Day and it breaks my heart he isn’t here for Z. This is for you, my friend.

My friend Sammy had a zest for life,
though he never took a wife
he had a special gal
and he was everyone’s pal.
May we all learn from him
let’s jump into life and swim.

100_4928 Can you tell what these crocheted objects that Phoebe is sniffing are?

100_4933 How about now?

Have you ever heard of putting a pickle ornament on your Christmas tree? Whoever finds it first gets an extra present or can open their gift first. There are many versions to the story. Here is a link on Wickipedia about it.

I thought it would be fun to make little catnip pickles so people can put them on the bottoms of their trees for kitties to find. My niece is going to sell them at the vet clinic with all the money going to PAL, a local shelter. We will be including one in a giveaway soon too. If you crochet, here is the recipe, I looked at a few different ones and made this one up for a baby gherkin.I used a G hook.

Round 1:Chain 2, single crochet 5 into second stitch from the hook.

Round 2: 2 single crochet into each sc ( 10)

Rounds 3 -12: one single crochet in each stitch ( 10)

Round 13: single crochet decrease- 5 times.

Round 14: single crochet in each (5).

Stuff with polyfil and catnip then fasten off.

________________________________________________________________________100_4917I am reading Oliver The Cat Who Saved Christmas by Sheila Norton.

It is a sweet book about a cat named Oliver who brings many villagers together. Oliver narrates as he tells his story to a kitten. There was one upsetting part when he talks of his life as a kitten and something bad that happened, but I was able to get through being this is a fictional story. It is definitely worth reading.

My thoughts and prayers are with all who have recently lost furbabies. I was deeply saddened to read that sweet Fiona had lost her battle against evil kidney disease.

and dear Bhu also went to The Bridge.

Come Fly With Me Sammy and Fill-Ins

Hi everyone! Today is a very special day for our dear friend, Sammy. He was one of our first friends when we started blogging and he is a great friend at Cat Scouts to my Sammy. He has his own travel service at Scouts and he stumps us weekly with his Tuesday Teaser. So today, we are all taking him to see something near where we live. Being that he is such a wonderful poet, we thought a trip to Amherst, MA to visit Emily Dickinson’s House/Museum would be the perfect place.

flywithsammy  To see where everyone else is taking him click here to visit Dory’s Backyard where the hop is being hosted. comeflywithus( Easy sadly went to The Bridge this week, but he is in the balloon with Sammy in Spirit).

This week’s Friendly Fill-Ins has a gift theme, apparently we both had the same thought in mind.Be sure to add your link at McGuffy’s Reader.

The Fill-ins:

1. I have a hard time finding a gift for _______________.
2. I have no problem finding a gift for _________________.
3. One of the best gifts I ever gave was                         .

4. One of the best gifts I ever received was                              .
My answers:
2.I have no problem finding a gift for MY HUBBY, MOM, NIECE AND GREAT-NIECE. ( I am having a hard time restraining myself with the great one, I want to buy her everything).
3. One of the best gifts I ever gave was AN ELKHOUND I GAVE MY HUBBY ( He was my boyfriend at the time, I was in college and his beloved Elkhound named Silver passed away. I wanted to get him another one so he wouldn’t be lonely and there was an ad in our local newspaper for Elkhounds. That is the only time I had ever seen an ad for them and there hasn’t been one since. I brought him to the next town to see them and he chose the one that was kept outside the fence in a different area. He named her Thora and she was a sweet dog that lived for 14 years and gave us many stories of all the things she consumed ( vinyl replacement windows, gas lines and mud flaps).
4. One of the best gifts I ever received was A HAND MADE CRIBBAGE BOARD FOR MY 29th BIRTHDAY FROM MY CHILDHOOD FRIEND WHOSE HUBBY MADE IT. ( 29 is a perfect hand in cribbage).

Poetry Day and Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone! 100_9961 I am still working on my letter to Santa because Mom threw my first letter away. Can you believe it? Just because I told Santa he could take Brody and give him to a child that wants a cat for Christmas.

I saw my Grammie Monday and Wednesday so I am very thankful. I love her so very much. And my Dad bought us a container of treats.

Here is my poem for my dear friend Sammy’s Poetry Day featuring the letter Y. There has been too much sadness lately which rubbed off in my poetry. I cheated a little with whY.

Why do we all have to die?
It is so hard to say goodbye.
I think all cats should have 25 years
so there would be less tears.

I know we are lucky to enjoy life
but when friends leave, it cuts like a knife.

Shopping Around the World

Hi everyone! This month we actually remembered to join Fozziemum and Bacon for Shopping Around the World. The theme for November is Thanksgiving foods. Several people commented last week when I wrote about spinach dip so I am going to share that recipe.

1 package frozen spinach thawed and drained  $1.00

16 ounce container sour cream $1.99

1 package of Knorr vegetable soup mix $1.50

2 cups shredded cheddar $3.00

Combine all ingredients and bake in an oven safe pan at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

I use Tostitos scoops, but any chip or cracker of your choice will work.

100_4894-2 Brody did well for his first Christmas photo shoot.
